My Path to Nutritional Therapy
I am a country girl born and raised in rural Maine to a family of dairy farmers. I grew up on raw cow's milk and eating fresh veggies from my grandmother's garden. She taught me the invaluable lessons of growing your own food, to not be afraid of hard work, getting my hands dirty and appreciating a home cooked meal of fried smelts, fresh dandelion greens and boiled potatoes. I have always been interested in caring for my health with nutrition but my journey into nutritional therapy wasn't a straight path – it was a winding road of some personal health struggles, eureka moments, and a growing fascination with the body's innate intelligence.
That fascination came from my own curiosity, research and my career as a Medical Technologist in a clinical medical laboratory for the last 26 years. That background gave me a front-row seat to see how many people quietly progress toward diagnoses like diabetes, heart disease, and high cholesterol, to name a few. They assume it's genetics or just the 'aging process'. I don't believe that has to be our destiny.
Becoming a certified NTP confirmed my suspicions that indeed the body is designed to come back into balance when given the right support. The changes won't happen overnight, but they are profound. My practice focuses on metabolic health and general wellness, using functional assessment and evidence-informed nutrition to help you understand the 'why' behind how you feel and help you build habits that optimize your health and that actually last. You will learn to tune into your body's needs and respond with targeted nutrition and lifestyle changes, discovering a level of health and vitality you didn't think was possible!
My personal experience ignited a passion to help others navigate their own health puzzles. It led me to the Nutritional Therapy Association, where I honed the skills to translate nutritional science into practical, personalized strategies for my clients.
As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I bring more than just knowledge to our sessions – I bring understanding, empathy, and a commitment to your unique health journey.
Beyond My Practice
Living in Maine provides endless opportunities to explore the great outdoors, which I love. When I'm not working with clients, you might find me foraging for edible weeds, tending my garden, hiking a mountain, walking in the woods or paddleboarding on a spring fed lake. In the winter, I love to snowshoe, cross country ski and hang out with my husband by a warm fire at our cabin in the woods. You might also find me in the kitchen experimenting with fermenting foods or making fresh bread. In full disclosure, I am still a novice at making sourdough bread!
I believe in walking the talk – the principles of nutritional therapy aren't just what I teach, they're the foundation of how I live. This firsthand experience allows me to offer not just theoretical knowledge, but practical insights on integrating healthy habits into busy, modern lives.
